Critical Science Plan Workshop 7

Coronal Science Frontiers
The Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) will revolutionize coronal science. Both Cryo-NIRSP and DL-NIRSP, the two infrared first light spectropolarimeters of DKIST, will provide, at important spatio-temporal scales, high-sensitivity measurements of the coronal polarized spectrum, both for established forbidden (M1) emission lines and for portions of the spectrum yet to be explored. Reaping the full benefit of these new magnetic diagnostics is critical science for the DKIST.

During our workshop, we will discuss how to define and support specific Critical Science Plan (CSP) Use Cases for early coronal science at DKIST. The team will be comprised of coronal modelers, spectral diagnostic experts, space/EUV coronal scientists, interested students and researchers, as well as members of the Cryo-NIRSP and DL-NIRSP instrument teams. Our scientific motivation is left broad to encourage wide-spread participation that may strengthen the ground based solar coronal community. The team will produce 10 to 15 publicly accessible Use Cases, and their corresponding observing strategies. In addition it will lay the groundwork for integrating forward modeling tools and space-based data sources with DKIST techniques and instrument performance estimates.
